Description
Grand Theft Auto is a 1997 action-adventure released by BMG Interactive, developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North). It is the first installment of the famous GTA.
The game is set in a top-down (2D) viewpoint and the player assumes the role of a criminal making his way up the ranks in a fictitious city. The overall focus is to accomplish missions assigned by different crime bosses, which involve car theft, police running, smuggling illegal products, and creating havoc in the city.
The player has the opportunity to explore three large cities namely: Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. Gameplay is an open world in which the player can move around, drive various cars and interact with the world. The greater the number of crimes committed by the player, the greater the wanted level and the more aggressive the police.
The game was popular due to its liberation, provocative content and its own way of playing. It was the basis of other GTA games that were to become full 3D open worlds later.
